Hamilton Final Choreography, Tap Three

Here is the step sheet for Tap Three.

I'm really setting aside my vanity with these videos. Not only do I look terrible, but my craft room is a DISASTER! So be gentle on me!!

Whole thing, for Jaimie. ;P I watched it through and noticed a few places where I got turned around. In case of discrepancies, use the step sheet and the instructional video as the authority! You know that some of those hiccups get best worked out when we are together!

The videos  show the ending. I have also linked the videos we did in class.

The New Normal

Hello San Juan Tappers!

This is going to be our new normal I suppose. San Juan College has announced that the rest of the semester will be completed through online instruction. I have yet to hear from Leisl if Encore will continue as online instruction, or if they will be working on some sort of a refund schedule. We are all in uncharted territory here and working through it the best we can. Sadly, we will definitely not be having a dance revue on April 25th. Depending on conditions, we may try to get together for SOMETHING at some point in May, but everything is so fluid these days that I can't make any promises.

However, I can continue to provide some level of online instruction. I can keep posting videos. We can have scheduled Zoom classes (Online classes where we all can see and hear one another), or we can give each other a virtual hug and just say "see you soon!" Please leave a comment below or text me with your feelings.

I have been working on the endings One Short Day, Into the Unknown, and Hamilton. (The completed Friend Like Me link is in last week's post.) Although, to be honest, it's hard to feel the drive to work through the tricky parts when we will not be able to perform these pieces, and so much of the ending is formation and visual appeal that is hard to work through without you guys. This truly breaks my heart as these are some of my favorite dances ever.

June Requested the most current version of One Short Day, without any of the instruction.
If you would like to have the step by step class, please see the previous post.

Here are a few tap videos from YouTube you might enjoy trying.

Greetings From a Social Distance

Hello My Beautiful Tap Ladies!

Welcome to Day one of the first official day of the college closing to flatten the curve of COVID19.

As I have told many of you who have messaged me, we are in limbo. A big fat "I don't know" is the answer I have to most questions.

I will be uploading warmups and choreography videos that you can work on at home. In the best case scenario, we will be back to class April 6th. If everyone has practiced, then an April 25th show won't be impossible. :)

Let me know if you need anything or have a suggestion for another video.

Tap Three Helps/ Tap to Perform

Pull backs

Rod Howell Video-This is actually more involved than the first one I found. He differentiates between pullbacks and pickups. He will show the difference, but we are probably not going to get that nuanced, but maybe after we all get awesome at them, we will be ready to feel the difference! Also, he got a new haircut and seems more comfortable in front of the camera than before, which I like.

Dance Revue:
April 25th Henderson Performance Hall

Welcome to tap at San Juan College!

Here we get exercise, learn new things, build friendships and have fun! Previous dance experience, skill, or even rhythm is not required, BUT a willingness to try new things and make mistakes IS required!  We will work together to make sure each student learns the steps. I ask just a few things:

1: Come to class. It’s really hard to learn if you’re not here. I understand that life happens and sometimes we must miss, but it is unfair to classmates if we are never able to move forward because we are constantly catching people up. Choreography will be posted on my blog supertappy.blogspot.com to help students make up classes they missed. If possible, please let me know when you will miss—we worry about you when you’re not here.

2: Try New things/Steps you hate Not every step or song can be everyone’s favorite. I work hard to find modifications for our various ability levels, but you will surprise yourself by how much you can actually do when you try. Additionally, I try to take students’ preferences into account in selecting music. Please feel free to recommend your favorites and I will see if they work with what we have planned.

3: Ask Questions If you don’t understand or need more instruction, don’t be afraid to speak up. You are probably not the only one with a question.

4: Be kind to your classmates Tap class is a safe space to try new things. We have a variety of ability levels in each class. Helping one another is great, but bossing is not. I’m happy for you to share your tips with your classmates, but please leave the correction to me, as the instructor. If you have concerns about your classmates’ mistakes, please bring that to me privately.

5: Have Fun! At the end of the day, these classes are for your enrichment. Allow yourself to have fun, even while working hard.

Students are invited to participate in a Dance Revue on April 25, 2020. This revue will only include students from San Juan College tap and ballet classes. Participation is not required but strongly encouraged! I need to know early if you are not able to participate. You will still be a full participant in class, but I need to be aware for spacing, costuming, etc.  **Students who miss an excessive amount of class will need to work with the online videos to learn choreography and we will decide together if they are prepared to participate in the revue. Costuming is the student’s responsibility, but I try to work with things you may have in your closet already and try to keep additional costuming pieces to under $20. I also have a variety of accessories that we use in costuming that students are not required to purchase but return to me after the revue is over.

I’m excited for a great semester!
